Leach Wallace provided engineering services to Constellation New Energy (CNE) to develop an Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) for approximately 18 buildings for the National Zoological Park. The buildings included were located at the Smithsonian Institution National Zoological Park in Washington DC, and the Conservation Biology Institute in Front Royal, VA.
The focus of the project was to identify and replace aged, inefficient, and failing equipment. The energy and water savings achieved paid for the major upgrade improvements.
We conducted field surveys and mechanical equipment assessments of 23 buildings at the two sites. Our effort included: energy audits of all major equipment at each building, testing and balancing diagnostics to identify problems and deficiencies for both air-side and water-side HVAC equipment. Our assessment resulted in 180 energy improvement measures to be implemented by the zoo.
