SCIENCE, ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY BUILDING
Leach Wallace Associates, Inc. provided LEED fundamental commissioning services for the new Science, Engineering and Technology building at Howard Community College. The 145,300 square foot project is a 4-story $77 million structure including the basement level. The building houses health education suites, classrooms, administration space, laboratories, and lounge areas for meeting space. The project is seeking LEED Silver certification.
The building’s mechanical systems, including the dedicated chiller and boiler plant, central station air handling units and VAV terminal units were commissioned to comply with LEED 2009 requirements. Other system components such as hot water heaters, pumps, emergency generators and lighting controls are also part of the LEED commissioning process requirements. Other LEED related items that involve the mechanical systems, such as Indoor Air Quality (IAQ), measurement and verification, and outdoor air delivery monitoring were reviewed for compliance.
