Testing & Balancing Technician

Testing and Balancing Technicians play an important role in the final quality assurance phase for construction of new HVAC systems, the verification of ASHRAE ventilation and air quality requirements, and the verification and demonstration of automatic temperature control systems. Under the supervision of a team manager, the Testing and Balancing Field Technician shall assist with:

  • Testing, Adjusting and Balancing: the three major steps used to achieve proper operation of HVAC systems.
  • Critical Space Testing: measuring airflows and confirming room pressurization is correct in addition to calculating air change rates.
  • Pre-commissioning: confirming the installation of the mechanical system is installed per the contract documents and the owner’s specifications.
  • Functional performance testing: testing that confirms the operation of the individual components of the mechanical system operate per the contract documents.
  • Retro commissioning: testing that analyzes current deficiencies and provides recommendations for remediation, and opportunities to conserve energy.


  • At least two (2) years of previous experience in the HVAC field or the equivalent trade schooling is recommended.
  • Must have reliable transportation to commute within the Baltimore, southern Pennsylvania (York, Hanover), Washington DC and Northern Virginia region.
  • Must have flexibility to work minor off hours shifts as needed. All off hours’ work will be scheduled and coordinated in advance.
