Design is in progress for a 245,000 square foot, new, seven-story Inpatient Tower, with a completion date set for January 2006. The new building will contain 89 new Medical/Surgical patient beds, 36 bed Women’s Center, 5 Dialysis beds and a 24 bed Intensive Care Unit. Additional space will be provided for the business office, medical records, medical staff services, infusion therapy, wound care, sleep center, and support services. An additional 31,000 square feet of inpatient area renovation for a new post partum unit and nursery will be accomplished, as well as significant infrastructure upgrades.

Infrastructure upgrades include a chiller plant expansion to house a new 1,000 ton centrifugal chiller and associated pumps and cooling towers, replacement of two of the existing three 250 boiler horsepower boilers with new 500 boiler horsepower boilers, new emergency generators, and new electrical substations.

The mechanical systems will include custom air handling units, a hot water heating plant, medium and low pressure duct distribution for the heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC). The systems also include domestic water heating plant, plumbing, fire protection, medical air compressors, and the various medical gas and vacuum systems required for the proposed addition and renovations.

The electrical systems will include three double ended substations for normal power, paralleled engine generator sets, normal and emergency power distribution, lighting, fire alarm and detection systems, voice and data, and various internal communications systems. The fire alarm is a voice evacuation system and the system will comply with high rise codes. A new central uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system will be provided for power to nurse call systems.
