Campus Expansion, Howard County General Hospital
Leach Wallace provided professional design services for the new patient tower and hospital renovation. The new construction, covered 108,000 SF, and the renovation covered 52,000 SF. The new construction was primarily in the form of a new five-story patient services tower. The patient tower included three floors of medical/surgical units with private beds and telemetry capabilities. It also included a new outpatient treatment center consisting of cardio-pulmonary rehab, diabetes education, wound care, occupational and physical therapy, a new pharmacy, and relocated data center and telephone PBX room. A bridge connects the new patient tower to the existing hospital and features windows and conditioned air. A new 600 space parking garage was also created.
Approximately 52,000 SF of major renovation to the existing hospital was performed during this project. Renovated areas included central sterile processing, surgery, laboratory, administration, registration, health information management, medical library, an expansion of the post-partum suite, progressive care unit, the main lobby and a new dialysis unit.
