Hospital Expansion, Shady Grove Adventist Hospital

The expansion of the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville, Maryland, consisted of a four-story, approximately 200,000 SF building addition and 70,000 SF renovations of portions of the first, second and third floors. The expansion added 231 new patient beds to the Hospital. From the footprint of the existing building, the mechanical and electrical systems were investigated and concepts were developed to establish the most efficient use of existing equipment and distribution systems. New equipment and systems were also installed.

The first, second and third floors of the existing building required demolition of mechanical and electrical systems. New HVAC systems were provided to serve the majority of the renovated spaces. New mechanical and electrical work included ductwork, medical gas piping and outlets, plumbing, fire protection, power distribution, lighting, and various communications systems (nurse call, fire alarm, paging, telephone, etc.) as required within the boundary of the renovation area. The new electrical service provides power to the renovated areas contiguous with the addition.
