ED/OR/ICU Addition & Alterations, Greater Baltimore Medical Center
Leach Wallace provided the mechanical and electrical systems design for the 97,000 SF addition and 50,000 SF renovation to the Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC). GBMC expanded its undersized emergency department (ED), surgical, and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) departments with the new addition to the east of Building 2 in the existing ED parking area. The original kitchen was gutted and renovated in its existing location on the fifth level and much needed support areas were also created on this level.
The Morgue was relocated to allow a new entrance to the east side of the building and the existing Central Sterile spaces were renovated to handle the current surgical capacity. In addition, two new elevators were provided to handle the additional pedestrian and freight capacities. A new radiology suite was created in the existing ED spaces on the third level and the ED administrative office space was also created and renovated on the same level. The penthouse, located on the sixth level of the new addition, houses most of the new mechanical equipment.
